True learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. At Sekolah Victory Plus, an International Baccalaureate School in Indonesia, this belief comes to life through Service as Action. In a powerful initiative called the Service as Action Cohort’s Lead, Grade 9 students from SVP stepped into impactful roles during a special project held at Madrasah Nurul Bahri, a primary school in Muara Angke Fishing Village, North Jakarta.
Teaching to Learn: Students as Mentors
As part of the Service as Action initiative, SVP students led engaging lessons in subjects such as PPKn, English, General Skills, and Korean for primary school children. These sessions went beyond traditional teaching—they provided meaningful opportunities for our students to apply their classroom learning in real-world contexts, fostering a valuable exchange of knowledge and growth for both groups.
This experience reflected how Sekolah Victory Plus, as an IB school in Indonesia, encourages students to grow as communicators, thinkers, and leaders. Through Service as Action, students discovered the power of empathy, cultural exchange, and teaching as a form of deep learning that extends well beyond textbooks.

Creativity for Sustainable Action
With a little innovation and a lot of fun, students created a big chopstick that they can use to pick up trash. This creative session was led by Marhara the Sanitizer, an Indonesian environmental activist and content creator. This inventive activity reflected the spirit of Service as Action, reminding students that change can start with small, imaginative steps. At Sekolah Victory Plus, these values are nurtured so students can grow into responsible citizens who think critically and act creatively.
Stories that Spark Connection
Another highlight of the day was the storytelling and mingling session. SVP students brought storybooks to read with the Madrasah children, using guided discussion questions to spark conversation and build bonds. Through this simple act, Service as Action came to life, students practiced empathy, active listening, and cultural understanding.
From Giving to Growing
The Service as Action cohort’s lead project wasn’t just an event, it was a milestone in the SVP student journey. It brought to life the belief that true education happens not just through learning, but through doing, sharing, and connecting. Through projects like this at Sekolah Victory Plus, students learn to become global citizens who lead with compassion, purpose, and a clear sense of their impact in the world beyond school.
