A Journey into Indonesia's Rich Culture and History
Sekolah Victory Plus, an innovative school and IB School in Indonesia, recently organized an exciting and enriching excursion for Grade 8 students. The trip took students to three iconic museums in Jakarta: the Puppet Museum, Fatahillah Museum, and the Fine Art & Ceramics Museum. This cultural exploration allowed students to dive deep into Indonesia’s rich history, art, and storytelling traditions, connecting their classroom learning with the world around them.
Exploring the Art of Puppetry
The excursion began with a visit to the Puppet Museum, where students were introduced to the fascinating world of Indonesian puppetry. They learned about the diverse ways puppetry is used to tell stories and preserve cultural myths and legends. The students had the opportunity to explore wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) and other traditional forms, gaining a deeper appreciation for how storytelling has been preserved for generations. It was a memorable experience that sparked creativity and curiosity in the students.

Discovering Jakarta’s Colonial Past
Next, the students visited the Fatahillah Museum, located in the heart of Jakarta’s old town. This museum, housed in a former colonial Dutch building, provided students with a historical perspective of Jakarta’s past. This excursion visit brought to life the city’s transformation from the colonial era to the modern, bustling metropolis it is today. Students were able to connect their history lessons with real-world artifacts and historical narratives, helping them understand the broader context of Indonesia’s past.
Immersing in Indonesian Art
The excursion concluded at the Fine Art & Ceramics Museum, where students explored the vibrant world of Indonesian art. From traditional ceramics to contemporary works, the museum showcased the diverse creative expressions that reflect Indonesia’s cultural heritage. Students were captivated by the artistry and craftsmanship on display, which broadened their understanding of Indonesian art and its significance in the country’s cultural identity.

Building Connections Across Subjects
This excursion was more than just an outing—it was a comprehensive learning experience that connected various subjects, from history to art to cultural studies. The trip helped students see how the lessons they learn in the classroom come to life in the real world, deepening their understanding of the importance of preserving cultural traditions and history.
