SVP: A Learning Environment That Encourages Independent Thinking

Encouraging Critical Thinking and Collaboration

"One of the reasons I chose SVP is because they highly encourage students to think critically, articulate their own fact-based opinions, and even challenge teachers in discussions."

“One of the reasons I chose SVP is because they highly encourage students to think critically, articulate their own fact-based opinions, and even challenge teachers in discussions,” shared Ibu Dina, a parent of two daughters enrolled at Sekolah Victory Plus (SVP). With her daughters Kiara and Gemma, Ibu Dina has witnessed firsthand how the school fosters independent thinking, research skills, and a well-rounded education.

A Shift Towards Inquiry-Based Learning

Having studied abroad, Ibu Dina understands the importance of balancing academic excellence with other crucial skills. “To stand out, one does not only have to have academic excellence but also other important aspects too,” she explained. She recalled how, during her time overseas, students were expected to conduct thorough research and articulate well-founded opinions—skills that SVP nurtures in its students.

“We were highly encouraged to articulate our own fact-based opinion and to challenge the teacher. In contrast, back in my days, questioning teachers was not seen as being a sharp thinker, but the opposite. When I was abroad, it was highly encouraged to think sharp, to always challenge, to always ask questions,” Ibu Dina reflected.

Building a Supportive Learning Community

Beyond academics, Ibu Dina values the school’s commitment to parental involvement. “I feel very supported and very welcomed; it doesn’t feel like there’s a barrier between the school and the parents. I feel very well informed in regards to both of my girls’ development,” she said. “SVP also continuously creates opportunities for parent engagement, which is very important these days because it does take a village to raise and educate our children.”

She emphasized the importance of collaboration between parents and the school in fostering a child’s growth. “In this case, we’re talking about hand in hand—the school and the parents working together—which is actually very crucial for the development of our kids.”

A Holistic Approach to Education

Ibu Dina has observed remarkable growth in her daughters, both academically and personally. “The fact that at SVP they are actually being exposed to multiple perspectives, they are learning to articulate their own opinion, balancing their academics and co-curricular activities,” she noted. “I would say both of my girls are very opinionated, they are sharp thinkers, independent, and always think out of the box. I believe SVP is creating well-rounded students ready to tackle the next steps.”

A moment of great pride came when her daughter was chosen for an important role in a school event. “She was actually a bit confused in terms of what to do, but she did a lot of practice. Sometimes she speaks quite fast, and I told her, ‘When in prayer, you should speak slow.’ We had quite a bit of practice, and after seeing her led the prayer, we were extremely proud. She was also very proud of herself, which I think is very important.”

Why Parents Choose SVP

Reflecting on her experience with SVP, Ibu Dina expressed deep appreciation for the school’s role in shaping well-rounded individuals. “What I like here is actually first and foremost, they are learning to articulate their own opinion, to raise questions, to challenge the teacher, and to have their own thoughts and opinions, as long as they are backed by facts and proper research. That is actually very much encouraged.”

Ibu Dina also highlighted the importance of collaboration and teamwork, which SVP instills in its students. “They are learning to be collaborative, to be a good team member while at the same time being independent. I really appreciate those kinds of teachings in the school.”

Her experience as a parent at SVP reaffirms her belief that education should extend beyond textbooks. “SVP is not just about academics; it’s about preparing children to think, express themselves, and be ready for the future. And for that, I’m truly grateful.”
