SVP: An Inclusive Space for Growth and Collaboration

Supporting Students Through Educational Transitions

The Quotes of Ibu Lee Suyong, a parent of Sekolah Victory Plus student - a renowned International School in Indonesia

"At SVP, students experience a learning environment where collaboration and support play a vital role in their academic journey."

For families who frequently relocate due to work, adapting to different education systems can be challenging. This was the case for Ibu Lee Suyong’s family, who had previously lived in China, Malaysia, and Singapore before moving to Indonesia. Their transition to Sekolah Victory Plus (SVP) marked their first experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, a significant departure from the textbook-based learning they were accustomed to.

In many of the education systems they had encountered, students followed structured textbooks, completed assignments, and received grades based on individual performance. The Korean curriculum, in particular, emphasized individualism and competition, which could be both motivating and challenging.

A Shift from Traditional Learning

Unalike the previous learning approach they experienced, SVP introduced a different method—one that encourages collaborative learning and inquiry-based education. Rather than relying solely on textbooks, students are encouraged to conduct research, engage in group discussions, and support one another in assignments. Initially, this new learning method was unfamiliar to Ibu Lee’s children, but they quickly adapted with the help of their classmates and teachers.

“At first, it was quite unfamiliar,” she admitted. “However, my child didn’t do it alone. They received a lot of help from their friends.”

One of the most significant changes was how the IB curriculum promoted a supportive learning environment. Hyesoo, who was naturally introverted, found comfort in the way students worked together, making her more open to sharing her school experiences with her family—something she rarely did before.

“She never really talked about her school days before,” Ibu Lee shared. “But now, she comes home saying, ‘Mom, today during Math class, I did this assignment with my friends.’ I’ve heard a lot of stories like this, and personally, I am very happy about it.”

A Smooth Transition to SVP

Moving schools can be particularly difficult for high school students, as adapting to a new environment while maintaining academic performance presents unique challenges. However, SVP provided the necessary support to make this transition as smooth as possible.

The school offered assistance from the admissions process to daily learning experiences, ensuring that students and parents alike felt welcomed. Recognizing the language barriers that some families might face, SVP even provided support staff who could assist in Korean, further easing the adjustment process.

“The school is very thoughtful and even has a staff member who is able to support us in Korean,” she said. “That has been very helpful.”

More importantly, the student community at SVP fosters an atmosphere of inclusivity and teamwork. The children never felt isolated in their learning journey. Students naturally help each other—whether through class discussions or group assignments. Shin Hyunkyu, who excels in Math, was able to assist his peers while also receiving guidance in other subjects, reinforcing the idea that education at SVP is a collective effort.

“My child tends to excel in Math, so they also help other students in subjects they are good at,” Ibu Lee Suyong. “I see this as a learning process where students get to support each other, and I am very happy about it.”

Why Families Choose SVP

When selecting a school, Ibu Lee Suyong’s family sought an institution that not only emphasized academic excellence but also nurtured personal growth. Recommendations from relatives who had previously enrolled their children at SVP played a significant role in their decision. The positive feedback regarding the school’s ability to accommodate new high school students assured them that SVP was the right choice.

“I know some of my relatives who sent their high school children to SVP,” she said. “I heard that SVP can accommodate students’ needs very well, especially for new high school students. That’s one of the reasons why I chose SVP.”

Looking back, their decision has been reaffirmed by the welcoming and supportive environment at SVP. The school has successfully created a space where students collaborate, engage in meaningful learning, and develop essential skills beyond academics. For families seeking an educational institution that prioritizes both academic and personal development, SVP stands out as an excellent choice.
